Cookie Policy
Last updated : September 12, 2026
RankMates uses cookies that are strictly necessary for it to work, plus one first-party analytics cookie (PostHog) that you can turn off at any time. We use no advertising cookies and we do not track your browsing on other sites.
1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small file placed on your device by a website. It is used, among other things, to keep you signed in and remember your display preferences.
2. Cookies we use
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| rankmates.session (and related cookies) | Keep you securely signed in (session authentication). | Session lifetime |
| Language preference | Remember the interface language you chose. | Persistent |
| ph_phc_BJMArFJU7BkBqEDatjKchT47sqaH6HvLHpoodjUShkTZ_posthog (cookie and localStorage) | Product analytics and error reports (PostHog, hosted in the EU): recognise your browser between visits and link your activity to your account once you are signed in. Set only on rankmates.net, never used for advertising. | 1 year |
3. Consent
The session and language cookies are strictly necessary to provide the service you expressly request, so they are exempt from consent under Article 82 of the French Data Protection Act.
The PostHog analytics cookie (ph_phc_BJMArFJU7BkBqEDatjKchT47sqaH6HvLHpoodjUShkTZ_posthog) is not covered by that exemption: it identifies your account across visits, which goes beyond anonymous audience measurement. We rely on our legitimate interest in understanding how RankMates is used and in fixing errors. It is hosted in the European Union, it is never used for advertising, we do not record your screen, and you can turn it off at any time in Settings → Privacy: the cookie is no longer set and this browser stops sending analytics; see the Privacy Policy, section 6, for the account events our servers still record. You can also block cookies in your browser; the service keeps working, except that you cannot stay signed in if the session cookie is blocked.
